My connection to dolphins began as a little kid watching Flipper, and it has deepened during many wonderful encounters with several pods of wild spinner dolphins in the bays and open waters of the Big Island of Hawaii.

The first few times I had close encounters with wild dolphins I got so excited that I cried and fogged my swim mask! I also managed to fill my snorkel with water, and by the time I got my gear rearranged and stopped choking my dolphin friends had zoomed ahead. My discombobulation settled down after I learned how to interact with them, and the magic began.

The dolphins love to pose and play and their graceful movements through the water and air are completely effortless. Though dolphins prefer not to be touched by humans; reflexively moving away from outstretched hands, they frequently touch each other and often are grouped in sexually active pairs or triads. Their formations appear as sacred geometry as they swim by in pod unity.

The thrill that comes from being taken into a pod's energy is beyond exhilarating. It feels as if you are able to swim just as they do, if only for a few moments as their energy carries you along with them timelessly. To be looking down into the deep, crystalline blue waters of the Pacific and see the silhouette of many dolphins beneath you is surreal and dreamlike. They often swim up suddenly, seeking out close contact as they look directly in swimmer’s eyes. A graceful dance begins when a human dives deeply and calls for dolphin partners.

On one occasion a pod stayed with us and openly interacted for well over an hour. Dolphins sleep during the day and become less active, shutting down parts of their brain and often closing one eye as they commonly swim into the deeper, protected bays to circle and rest. This day our friends decided to stay up a little later than usual, out in the open ocean. They greeted us warmly as we left our boat and joined their pod, and opened the lines of communication with us.

Their clicks and squeaks were very directed and seemed to penetrate us. Their sounds were familiar to us, but we had never been affected by them this deeply. Later that day we shared that we both had known that we were getting some kind of energetic download of information from them. These frequencies carry the vibration of healing and consciousness, and they were shared with us openly.
