COSTA RICA, ABOVE THE CLOUDS

It felt so unbelievable and huge to consider leaving the country for a full 3 months.  My partner Dan had just finalized the purchase of his first home only weeks before we left Sedona, and we hastily emptied our things into it.  I didn't even have a mental image of "home", or have the ability to visualize my things.it was as if I had to instantly detach from the concept of having a home for the trip.   I had to allow myself to become The Pilgrim in the truest sense.

“Happy” dog went to live with friends.  The house and the bonsais and the plants and the bills were entrusted to others’ care. We each had our own places before the new house magically showed up, and Dan had never lived with a partner before, so moving in together represented another huge change for us.  There was no time to even begin to absorb it before we left the country.

We departed Sedona in a state of open anticipation, and for me a bit of trepidation, December 21, 2003. The magical journey began on the winter solstice, and our tickets returned us to Sedona on the vernal equinox.  These special dates seemed fitting as we followed our guidance, surrendered, opened our hearts and flew off to a whole new world of experiences.

I had received guidance to focus on a special prayer as I flew over the world.  I centered myself when we were in the air and pictured rose petals flowing out from my heart. Down, down, down they floated, down to the hearts of the people below.   Airplane time became very joyful for me.  A Russian Shaman reminded me that I grew these lovely flowers in the garden of my heart.  I knew they flourished every time I experienced joy and felt love and appreciation.

I had done little international travel, and could barely imagine visiting eight counties in one three-month trip.  When it felt somewhat scary, I called in my sincere, heart-felt gratitude for the gift that this sacred site trip was to me.  I said “thank you!!!” to the universe for the cherished opportunity to connect with water at sacred sites all over the world, and to pray that all the water’s energies connect, in a good way, for my healing and the healing of the planet.   How blessed this gift, how open and thankful I felt.   Any fears vanished, and child-like wonder filled me.

Through the eyes of innocence, I watched Arizona, and the US, slip behind me as Costa Rica came into view. Our exploration of Costa Rica filled the first week of the trip, which included Christmas day. From San Jose in the middle of the country, we traveled northwest to Arenal, and then on to the eastern Caribbean coast to a small town called Cahuita, south of Puerto Limon.

I clearly felt called to this small country, though I originally wasn't quite sure why.  While planning the trip, the name of the country brought joy to my heart, and there were many synchronicities regarding it that kept showing up around us.  After connecting with Costa Rica's energy, I felt that her active volcanoes, as well as the water that marked both her eastern and western shores were what had called to me.   This was clearly why I heard to begin the sacred sites trip at this location.  Such earth and fire and water energy!
