~ ABYDOS AND DENDERA~

Whenever we visit museums with artifacts from Egypt, I can always mysteriously “feel” and “know” that an object is from Abydos.  This was especially true at the vast Egyptian collection owned by the Louvre in Paris.  As I approached any exhibit, something always felt different and familiar about it if came from Abydos. My connection to the energy of Abydos has been consistent, though a bit eerie, since my journey there.

From Luxor, we found that the only way to reach Abydos and Dendera was through a police convoy.  This requirement was said to be a reaction to tourists being killed in the past, though it made little sense to me since all other Egyptian temples could easily be reached without an escort.  It felt as though these areas were being singled out in a way that restricted entry to them.  The advantage to us was that these two temples were nearly empty, a rare occurrence in the often extremely crowded sacred sites of Egypt.

I don’t remember ever feeling a strong connection to Abydos before our Egypt trip, but it instantly developed when I first felt its energy while in Luxor. My longing to visit Abydos felt much like the “knowings” that we had when we were instinctively drawn to certain sacred sites throughout the world when we planned our three-month journey.  We found out through an astrology reading right before embarking on the journey that every single place we had chosen as a destination had a strong significance for one or both of us.  A great confirmation that guidance, rather than preference, had been intricately involved.

I had no idea of the history of Abydos, nor why it so drew me.  The very name of this most ancient and holy of temples echoed through me; I responded to it and instantly recognized its energy.  It felt sharp and mysterious and abrasive and old beyond words; I felt called and repelled at the same time.

I was warned by Kate, my massage therapist in Luxor, that I would be very vulnerable at Abydos.  She likened the energy of Abydos to first chakra energy, very primal and deep and possibly even dangerous to me.  She actually proved to be quite accurate with this assessment.  I felt deathly ill as we approached Abydos and a terrifying and potentially life threatening accident occurred as we traveled away from the site.

I don’t choose to respond to warnings of danger with fear, as I absolutely know that I am always protected.  Anything that happens to me is for a reason, and carries a message.  This is always my starting point, no matter what the circumstance in my life. I do ask my guidance (that I trust) to inform me if I need to do anything specific to protect myself in any given situation or location, or while facilitating a healing session.  When I checked in, I did hear that I needed to be very conscious and maybe even cautious as I made my way to Abydos. I called in my guides to assist my process.  Awareness was the key.

It didn’t first appear that we would even have the extra time to join the convoy for the long drive north to the temples, but the weather gifted us an extra day in the Luxor area.  We were taken to the airport at the crack of dawn for our flight back to Cairo, and only then were told that all flights had been cancelled for many hours.  Someone said the closure was due to “sandstorm”, but that seemed a bit unlikely, though exotic.  After standing at the airport for an hour or two, there was still no sign when it would re-open. We gently asked to be taken back to our hotel.  This delay felt more like an opportunity than an inconvenience, though the lack of sleep was affecting both of us.

Unfortunately, the hotel front desk refused to give our room back to us. We politely insisted that the room was still ours since official checkout time was hours away.  We eventually prevailed, and after returning to our quarters, were guided to stay another night in Luxor.  The hotel staff was quite pleased.  Our remaining time in Egypt was flexible enough for this change.  Then I realized that this was our chance to go to Abydos!
