PERU, AGUAS CALIENTES

We made our way by train to Macchu Pichu, and spent our New Years there.  Our hotel in Aguas Calientes was quite near Macchu Pichu, and was a haven for hummingbirds as well as gorgeous exotic flowers. The site had an extensive orchid collection that we toured. There were many hiking trails through the grounds, and even a small zoo.  We found waterfalls tucked away in the lush natural areas where every surface dripped with ferns and moss and flowers.

From inside the fence of the hotel grounds we noticed a family having a picnic lunch just outside of a large sacred circle carefully marked by stones on the ground.  We found a way off of the private property, and made our way to the circle reverently. We approached quietly and motioned to the family that we would like to enter the circle for prayers.  Through the language barrier we felt their friendliness and support.  We walked the circle quietly and said some prayers for the earth while feeling great gratitude for the opportunity to travel the world and encounter such unexpected sacred moments as this.  We graciously gestured our good-byes and thanked the family for allowing us to enter the circle.

As we made our way back through the thick undergrowth toward the hotel, we saw a worn sign for helicopter rides.  It didn't take long for us to realize that our sacred circle had actually been an old helicopter pad.  After feeling pretty silly and a bit embarrassed, the humor of the situation overtook us and we laughed our way back to the hotel. Spirit always reminds us not to take ourselves too seriously.  The family is probably still wondering about us.

PERU, MACHU PICCHU

Machu Picchu (Photo Gallery) is amazingly vast and full of complexity.  The pictures of it that I had seen left me unprepared for the immensity of the great terraced city. It was recently discovered in 1911, and slowly uncovered from the jungle where it was entwined for centuries. The weather in January was misty and rainy and chilly.  Clouds would roll in instantly, then just as suddenly the sky would clear for a few moments and shafts of sun would radiate through the air illuminating the ancient stones surrealistically. The area is called a cloud forest.  It was captivating.

My energy level was extremely low in Machu Picchu.  We did still explore almost every nook and cranny and stone, from one end of the city to the other.  We went off on trails that took us beyond the site.  The city of Machu Picchu contains thousands of steep stone stairs and I was able to climb almost all of them, though I took it very slowly and honored my body’s frequent need for more air, less stair.

Almost every moment in Machu Picchu left me feeling heavy and full of sorrow; great sorrow that made me want to cry.  The area felt so familiar, even the plants seemed like old friends.  I felt I was tapping into existences that took place in this energy before, both as a warrior, and also as someone who had gone against the grain of society and may have been shunned.  The Andes captivated me, but weighed my spirit down.

I asked that any energies still in my field from my experiences in this area of the world be cleared and integrated.  I believe that when we enter any area with a healing intent it allows us to tap into energies that need clearing.  I don't focus so much on whether or not the feelings I get are my actual past life experiences; I just stay open to the energies, and available to assist healing in any way that I can.  When we consider that there is no true linear time and that we are not separate from other beings on the planet, we begin to sense and feel that we have access to all experiences of all beings.  We open ourselves to become conduits for healing.
